About the book

Tea expert Theodosia Browning and her tea connoisseur companion Drayton Conneley are attending a bird hunt that is reminiscent of an English shooting party. The event includes elevenses with sloe gin fizzes, gun loaders, the drawing of pegs, elegant bird dogs, and shooting attire made of tweed, herringbone, and suede.

However, amidst the gunshots ringing out like Black Cat firecrackers, a shot rings out too close to comfort for Theodosia and Drayton. Intrigued yet concerned, Theodosia ventures into the neighbor's lavender field where she stumbles upon their host, Reginald Doyle, who is gravely injured.

Reginald's wife, Meredith, is distraught and implores Theodosia and Drayton to stay the night. But Theodosia wakes up at 2:00 A.M. to find her room filled with smoke and the house ablaze. As the fire department arrives and the sheriff investigates, Meredith once again seeks Theodosia's assistance.

As Theodosia delves into the mystery, accusations are made, hidden truths come to light, Reginald's daughter-in-law disappears and is presumed dead, and Meredith is adamant about seeking answers through a séance. Throughout it all, Theodosia wonders if she made a mistake by inviting a possible suspect to her Lavender Lady Tea event.
