It was a stormy night, dark and ominous, but Theodosia Browning had bigger problems on her mind. Approaching St. Philips Graveyard, she caught sight of two figures entwined in a peculiar embrace. Despite the rain obscuring her vision, Theodosia realized with horror that she had just witnessed a savage murder, with a mysterious figure in a dark hood disappearing into the mist.

In a panic, Theodosia identifies the victim - the daughter of her friend Lois, who ran the Antiquarian Bookshop next to her own Indigo Tea Shop.

Even though it seemed like the work of a serial killer haunting Charleston's alleys, Lois pleads for Theodosia's help. Ignoring the warnings from her boyfriend, Detective Pete Riley, and the advice from Drayton, her tea sommelier, Theodosia embarks on her own undercover investigation. She soon realizes that there are plenty of suspects - from the victim's boyfriend, a shady real estate developer, a security guard, a clumsy reporter, to her own neighbor who is writing a true-crime novel and looking for a sensational climax.
