Delaney Nichols, a non-adventurer by nature, found herself unexpectedly making the move to Edinburgh, Scotland to work at The Cracked Spine, a quaint bookshop nestled in the city's center. Offered a mysterious but life-changing opportunity by her new boss, Edwin MacAlister, Delaney eagerly anticipates taking her place behind the desk.

The Cracked Spine is a haven for book enthusiasts, carrying an array of unique items as diverse as the eclectic staff members; the spirited Rosie with her trusty companion Hector, the young and talented Hamlet, and the enigmatic Edwin. Adding to the atmosphere is Tom, the charming bartender from the nearby pub, with his captivating blue eyes and charming Scottish accent.

However, before Delaney can fully settle into her new role, a valuable artifact goes missing, and tragedy strikes when Edwin's sister is murdered. Delaney never imagined that her search for lost items would lead her to a murderer, but in order to protect her job and her newfound friends, she must unravel the mystery behind this Scottish crime.
