On a snowy evening, Delaney and her colleague Hamlet receive an invitation to a Burns Night dinner, a traditional Scottish event honoring the poet Robert Burns. Delaney is puzzled by the invite but decides to attend out of curiosity. The dinner is held at Burns House, a small cottage near the Cracked Spine bookshop, hidden from plain sight. It becomes evident that Delaney and Hamlet have been called there to reconcile Edwin, Delaney's employer, with another guest who accused Edwin of setting fire to his bookstore two decades ago following a disagreement.
However, the evening takes a dark turn when another fire breaks out, destroying Burns House and claiming a life. When Hamlet becomes the prime suspect, Delaney races against time to clear his name, only to uncover a shocking revelation that might explain his possible motive.
