About the book
Set in Edinburgh, Scotland, Lost Books and Old Bones is a delightful new mystery by Paige Shelton, featuring bookseller and amateur sleuth Delaney Nichols.
Delaney Nichols, a native of Kansas, has found joy in her new life as a bookseller in Edinburgh, where she works at the Cracked Spine in the heart of town. The shop is a treasure trove of curiosities and surprises hidden on every shelf, and Delaney's role is to research the rare books and obscure artifacts that customers bring in to buy and sell.
When her fellow medical school friends visit the shop to sell a collection of antique medical books, Delaney realizes she has come across a valuable discovery. Her boss, Edwin MacAlister, is willing to purchase the multi-volume set, perhaps even to add to his own collection.
However, shortly after the sale, one of Delaney's friends is found murdered in the alley behind the Cracked Spine. Delaney starts to suspect a sinister connection between the origins of the books and the individuals who have come into possession of them. Determined to bring the killer to justice, Delaney dives into her own investigation.
During her search for clues, Delaney stumbles upon some old scalpels in the bookshop's storage area and learns that they once belonged to a deceased doctor with ties to the past crimes of Burke and Hare—which could be linked to the current murder case. With time ticking away, Delaney races against the clock to solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim on the slab.
