When the local high school decides to hold a fundraiser, Carly, a restaurant owner, is more than willing to participate and asks for her mother's assistance in selling her popular grilled cheese sandwiches at the event. However, their neighboring vendor turns out to be rude and aggressive, causing trouble for both Carly and her mother. In response, Carly's mom confronts the man with a sharp tongue, hoping to put an end to the conflict - until the man is later discovered dead, strangled with her own scarf.

With her mother accused of murder, Carly is determined to uncover the truth behind the man's death. As she delves into the victim's past, she discovers a multitude of enemies who may have had motives for the crime. A suspicious figure at the fundraiser catches her attention, as well as the victim's girlfriend, leading Carly to suspect that one of them - or perhaps both - are responsible for the murder. However, her investigation places her in grave danger, as she realizes too late that the killer is now targeting her.
