About the book
My disdain for the holiday season is well-founded, but nothing could have prepared me for the actual horror of traveling three thousand miles in the heart of winter.
When my colleague falls ill, I reluctantly agree to cover their assignment - a feature on the charming Christmas village of Vermont.
Following a flight delay and a treacherous drive through a snowstorm in a minivan to a secluded mountain cabin, I find myself entangled in a rental deception.
As if it wasn't bad enough that the owner bursts into my room unclothed and accuses me of trespassing, he then informs me that all roads leading to town are closed. To add to my woes, every hotel in the area is fully booked with visitors for the seasonal celebration.
To make matters worse, his home resembles a scene from the Arctic.
Truly, a nightmare.
The sole silver lining of being snowed in with a rugged lumberjack is his ability to endure the cold and allow me to share his body heat during the night.
However, things take an unexpected turn, and despite my efforts to resist, I find myself developing feelings. Yet, it seems unlikely to work out given our geographical separation and contrasting lifestyles.
Or perhaps, we are not so different after all…
