The happy couple, Lucy Richardson and Connor McNeil have recently become engaged. To celebrate, their friends throw a party for them at Coquina Beach, near Lucy's cherished Bodie Island Lighthouse Library.

Just as the party winds down and guests begin to leave with their gifts and leftovers from Josie's Cozy Bakery, Lucy's former flame, Richard Eric Lewiston III, turns up with his meddlesome mother, Evangeline. Despite Evangeline’s attempts to reunite Lucy and Richard, Lucy remains resolute in her decision. Feeling nothing but shame regarding his mother’s antics, Richard is caught in the middle of the familial drama.

Before departing for Boston, Evangeline arranges a dinner gathering at Jake's Seafood Bar, much to Lucy and her family's chagrin. Eager to see them leave, Lucy hopes for a swift end to the evening. However, when a body is discovered at the restaurant’s back entrance, Lucy is once again pulled into a murder investigation, reluctantly donning her detective hat to protect her loved ones and her engagement.

Meanwhile, tensions rise in the Lighthouse Library as the book club delves into The Hound of the Baskervilles, and a feud erupts over the arrival of a dog named Fluffy under Lucy’s care, much to the disdain of Charles, the resident library cat.
