One millennium after the destruction of Earth in an unprovoked attack, humanity has emerged triumphant from a series of brutal wars to secure its place in the galaxy.

However, amidst the festivities on humanity's new Homeworld, the renowned Captain Pantillo of the UFS Phoenix battle carrier is not only court-martialed but also murdered. Lieutenant Commander Erik Debogande, the successor to humanity's most influential industrial dynasty, is falsely accused of the crime.

With the help of Phoenix's marine commander Trace Thakur, Erik and the crew of the Phoenix are forced to flee as they try to uncover the truth behind their Captain's death. They are relentlessly pursued by their own Fleet. The revelations they uncover about the real reasons behind the wars and the ancient alien allies of humanity will have profound consequences for the entire galaxy.
