For most people, the fear of a nuclear catastrophe was a relic of the Cold War era, a threat associated with the United States and the Soviet Union that seemed to have been put to rest by Gorbachev and Reagan in the 1980s, with the fall of the Berlin Wall.

So when Alia Gallin's murder came to the attention of ODIN agent Alex Mason, the last thing on his mind was the possibility of it being linked to a potential nuclear conflict. All Mason could think about was his thirst for revenge and the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Despite his burning desire to pursue the case, Mason's superior, known as Nero, instructed him to stay out of it as the investigation fell under the jurisdiction of the Mossad, not ODIN. Faced with deception and treachery at every turn, Mason grew increasingly frustrated.
