Description
Horror fiction is a genre designed to scare, unsettle, or horrify its audience, regardless of the medium. Traditionally, the source of horror has often been the intrusion of supernatural forces into the everyday world. Since the 1960s, however, the term "horror" has come to include any work of fiction featuring morbid, gruesome, surreal, or particularly suspenseful and frightening themes. Horror fiction frequently overlaps with science fiction and fantasy, and all three genres are often grouped together under the broader category of speculative fiction.
