Leo Hunt is at a crossroads in his life. A well-known Corinthian who never backs down from a challenge, Leo has decided it's time to mature. Seeing his friends settling down and his sister's chaotic family life has given him the idea that he might want something similar. The woman who has prompted this change of heart is his long-time friend and sometimes rival, Violetta Spencer. Leo has known Vi since they were children and has always managed to annoy her whenever they are together.

When Leo declares his intention to pursue her, Vi thinks he must be out of his mind. She believes he is only doing it for a bet or a dare. However, she has not considered the meddling of her marriage-minded adoptive mother, Lady Trevick, who is determined to see Vi married off.

Despite her resistance, Vi decides to endure Leo's courtship, hoping he will soon lose interest. But things take a disastrous turn when Leo's beloved cat, Mau, is kidnapped by criminals seeking ransom.

As they embark on a dangerous rescue mission, Vi realizes that she is actually enjoying herself, and Leo turns out to be different than she expected.
