About the book

Cosette Whitlow is a well-known figure in tiny Bradley, North Carolina, serving as a society matron in the town. Despite her involvement in various charities, she is not known for being kind to her own family, neighbors, and friends. Many residents, including octogenarian Myrtle Clover, do not hold a favorable opinion of Cosette. In Bradley, where animosity can quickly escalate, Myrtle understands that the situation could become dangerous.

When Cosette is found dead at a party she was hosting, having been murdered with a croquet mallet, no one is shocked. Determined to bring peace back to the community, Myrtle takes it upon herself to uncover the perpetrator and prevent further harm from occurring.
