About the book

France, 1356. A decade has gone by since the Battle of Crécy, and the English soldiers continue to wage war, besieging cities, towns, and villages abroad. Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales conducts raids across the continent in an attempt to provoke King John into a conflict for control over all of France. Berenger Fripper, who lost everything during the plague, now commands a band of mercenaries, only to face betrayal and deceit as he travels with his company to Uzerche. As fate would have it, Berenger crosses paths with Prince Edward and his troops as they set out on their latest campaign to wreak havoc upon the King of France's people. Berenger is once again called upon to serve as a Vintener under the leadership of Sir John de Sully. Leading his Vintaine into a new battle, Berenger must confront the question of whether the English forces can emerge victorious against the larger French army, or if they will finally succumb to defeat on the battlefield near Poitiers.
