Gilly Macmillan was raised in Wiltshire, but her life took an unexpected turn when her family relocated to California during her teenage years. She pursued a degree in History of Art at Bristol University, followed by a MA in Modern British Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art. Throughout her career, she has held positions at the Burlington Magazine, the Hayward Gallery, and taught photography at a sixth-form college in Swindon. However, her most beloved job was working at a café across from Keplers bookshop in Menlo Park, CA. Currently, Gilly resides in Bristol with her husband Julian and their three children.
