Fall has draped Ashland, Oregon, in a palette of vibrant colors. Lance, the beloved artistic director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, is in high spirits. As the theater season comes to a close, he is already looking ahead to an exciting lineup for the next season. The only obstacle in his way is the lack of funds. Lance's grand productions come with a hefty price tag. So when Richard Lord, the feared owner of the Merry Windsor Hotel, proposes a partnership for an upcoming brunch show, Lance cannot refuse.

Although Shakespearean themes and stale pastries are not exactly Lance's expertise, he cannot say no to the opportunity to fill the coffers. It's just a brunch, right? How bad could it be?

However, the brunch turns out to be the least of Lance's worries. With too many cooks in the kitchen, including Richard's mysterious girlfriend, things take a dark turn when the hotel's French chef is found dead during the brunch event. Now, Lance must team up with Juliet, a talented baker, to unravel the clues. If they fail to solve the mystery, they might become the next targets for a murderer.
