In the small town of Fethering, residents Jude and Carole find themselves in a situation they didn't expect when a meal at their local pub results in everyone getting food poisoning. The pub landlord is shocked, and as a series of unfortunate events start to occur, it seems like it could be the downfall of the Crown and Anchor. With a bitter taste lingering in their mouths - not just from the food - the two amateur detectives begin to suspect that it may be more than just bad luck causing their beloved pub to go bankrupt. When a young man named Ray, who has the mental capacity of a five-year-old, is discovered dead in the pub's kitchen with a knife in his heart, Carole and Jude spring into action. There is a murderer on the loose in Fethering and our female sleuths must uncover their identity before it's too late for the pub - and for themselves.
