About the book

Tom McMurtrie, a former law professor, has a track record of bringing criminals to justice and handling some of Alabama's most notorious cases. His latest challenge involves investigating the death of his old rival, Jack Willistone, whose body was discovered on the Black Warrior River. Despite Willistone having numerous enemies, evidence points towards a forgotten, troubled woman as the murderer. Moved by the pleas of the suspect's desperate teenage daughter, McMurtrie agrees to take on the case.

Despite his experience, McMurtrie is unprepared for the personal and dangerous nature of this case. With the trial approaching and his partner, Rick Drake, dealing with a family crisis, McMurtrie enlists the help of his best friend, Bocephus Haynes, to assist with the investigation.
