About the book

In 1966 in Pulaski, Tennessee, Bocephus Haynes witnessed the brutal murder of his father by ten members of the Ku Klux Klan. Despite practicing as an African American lawyer in the birthplace of the Klan, Bo has dedicated his life to seeking justice for his father. However, when Andy Walton, the suspected leader of the lynch mob, is found murdered in the same location as Bo's father forty-five years later, Bo becomes the main suspect.

Retired law professor Tom McMurtrie, who was once Bo's mentor and friend, is persuaded to return to the courtroom to defend Bo against charges of capital murder. Alongside his determined partner, Rick Drake, they must also search for the true killer of Andy Walton. As their reputations and lives are put on the line in a high-stakes courtroom battle, can McMurtrie and Drake help Bo find closure and justice? Or will the truth remain elusive, lost in the divide between black and white?
