About the book

Ralph Waldo Emerson is facing the challenges of dementia as he grapples with the decision of whether or not to intervene in the unjust arrest of a Black soldier.

As he nears the end of his life in 1879, the once prominent figure known as the Sage of Concord is struggling with aphasia and sorrow, making it difficult for him to communicate. Despite this, he continues to ponder the future of humanity and the environment, haunted by the spirits of his fellow transcendentalists.

Questions about the importance of the present over the past, the relationship between ideas and actions, and individual responsibilities weigh heavily on Emerson's mind. These philosophical dilemmas become all too real when he encounters the Black soldier who is accused of a crime.
