About the book
In the sixth book of The American Novels series, we follow the story of Shelby Ross, a merchant who suffered losses during the depression of 1873-79. He is appointed as a New York City Custom House appraiser working under inspector Herman Melville, a bitter and forgotten writer of Moby-Dick. While working on the docks, Ross makes friends with a young man and also gains an enemy who tries to ruin them by spreading rumors about their relationship. Ross shares his experiences with his childhood friend Washington Roebling, the chief engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge. As his life takes a turn similar to Ahab's, he encounters Ulysses S. Grant on his deathbed, Samuel Clemens who will publish Grant's Memoirs, and Thomas Edison at the beginning of electrifying the city.
Feast Day of the Cannibals tells the gripping tale of a troubled soul during America's time of great change.
