Is it possible for a solitary person to become the savior they are in need of?

As a gruff former soldier, I prefer solitude. And what better place to find it than a secluded chalet in Italy, far away from my past and painful memories? The peace and quiet is just what I need to focus on my next book. But as they say, the best laid plans often go awry. Before I know it, I am providing shelter for a single mother on the run with her child - and a talking lizard.

How on earth did this happen?

It turns out that being cantankerous doesn't mean I lack compassion, as I find myself offering them a safe haven.

Nicky and her young child are seeking refuge from a harmful situation and hoping for a new beginning.

Then there's Percy, the lizard who is actually a dragon in need of constant care and protection.

Somehow, they have placed their trust in me - a man who struggles to get a good night's sleep.

But perhaps there is no one better to protect them than a man who isn't afraid to take action. Although I may have retired from active duty, I haven't forgotten how to hunt down the enemy and ensure they face consequences.

If you dare to harm those I hold dear, rest assured, it will be the last mistake you make.

Fortunately, I have found not one, but two humans willing to serve me. Although the large male will need some discipline before he shows me the respect I deserve. But I believe he will be worth the effort, especially when he risks his life for me without hesitation. Because, ultimately, there is no one more important than myself.
