Austin despises the idea that Kat had somehow delved into his innermost thoughts and selected the one job he both desires and fears. He had left - or perhaps been driven away from Rox. He isn't certain anymore; all he knows is that he needs closure on a once idyllic marriage that had soured. The same family he had married into had gained, then lost, a War Dog. And of course, Kat had discovered his involvement, bluntly asking if it was time for him to get his act together.

Rox had pushed Austin away in a fit of anger, and he had left, never to return. And now, here he sits in her kitchen, as if their tumultuous history had never happened. Learning that he had returned for the missing War Dog rather than for her stung. She had reported Cowboy missing, but she hadn't expected Austin to be the one sent to investigate. It seemed as though fate was determined to continue wreaking havoc on her life.

Locating the missing War Dog and resolving the other unsettling issues on the ranch that Austin had once loved won't be simple - especially with Rox by his side.
