About the book

Deep in the expansive and permeable Great North Woods, a dangerous smuggling operation is underway. This operation is being run by a group of disillusioned former soldiers who have recently returned from Iraq. They are exchanging illicit goods - drugs, money, weapons, and even people. However, something else has been exchanged as well. Something ancient, powerful, and sinister.

The authorities are aware that something suspicious is happening, but they are unaware of how bizarre and terrifying the situation truly is. The only person who understands the depths of darkness within the hearts of men is private detective Charlie Parker. As the smugglers mysteriously begin to die in what appears to be suicides, Parker is called upon to put a stop to the bloodshed.

The soldiers' actions and the items they are smuggling have captured the attention of the reclusive Herod, a man who has a penchant for the unusual. Wherever Herod goes, a shadowy figure known as the Captain follows. In order to defeat them, Parker must reluctantly join forces with a man he fears more than anyone else - the notorious killer, the Collector.
