About the book

A nobleman from a notorious lineage, Ben Stiger has just been appointed to Third Legion, Seventh Company as a humble lieutenant at the beginning of the war between the Empire and the Kingdom of the Rivan. Third Legion’s mission is to track down a retreating Rivan army to the border for the Empire to launch an offensive. However, they face a significant obstacle: the river Hana. The crossing is bound to be fiercely contested and perilous. Failure to cross the river could spell disaster for the entire campaign.

This is Stiger’s first military assignment. Young, inexperienced, and lacking self-assurance, he is shunned by his fellow lieutenants and placed under an ineffective commander. With his life and reputation at stake, he must learn to connect with soldiers of lower rank and lead them into battle. Stiger not only fights against the enemy, but also battles against his family’s past and his own doubts in order to prove himself worthy of serving the empire he is devoted to and earning the respect of his subordinates.

Amidst the turmoil of a grand conflict, there are mysterious forces at play that Stiger cannot even begin to comprehend, propelling him onto a perilous and solitary path towards his destiny.
