About the book
Jake Potter has returned to Dewees Island for another summer with his grandmother, Honey. This time, Jake is thrilled to have his dad by his side as he continues to heal from his injuries suffered in Afghanistan. However, Jake knows that they both must adjust to a new normal, which proves to be a challenge.
As Jake navigates this new chapter, he also learns that his two closest friends, Macon and Lovie, are facing their own struggles. Macon is adapting to his role as a big brother, while Lovie is reconnecting with her father, who has been absent for much of her life. In an effort to lift everyone's spirits, Jake proposes a new adventure for the trio - similar to their turtle-saving mission from the previous summer.
While exploring the island, Jake uncovers his dad's fond memories of an old tree fort and a hidden treasure box nearby. With the hope of bringing joy back into his dad's life, Jake enlists Macon and Lovie as his fellow treasure hunters. As they embark on their quest, the friends encounter unexpected challenges from both human and animal visitors on Dewees.
Through their journey for treasure, Jake, Macon, and Lovie come to realize that the most valuable treasures are the ones they already possess - the bond of friendship and the love of family.
