About the book

A fur trapper by trade, Preacher has a keen sense for sniffing out trouble, no matter how well it's hidden. His past experiences have left him scarred, but he's now prepared to teach his deadly survival skills to a young boy named Hawk, who may just be his own son.

Preacher and Hawk leave the Rockies behind and head to St. Louis with a haul of furs. For Hawk, it's his first taste of civilization, but when he meets Chessie Dayton, he quickly finds himself entranced. As Chessie joins a risky expedition for gold in the lawless mountains, Hawk urges Preacher to follow the group, knowing they are all heading towards the dangerous Black Hills - a place of no return. To survive, many will have to perish, and Preacher will need plenty of bullets for this journey into the depths of hell.
