About the book
Dark Beauty pays homage to Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five, written in a similar style with anecdotes from his life. Just like Vonnegut's work, it weaves actual events into a fictional narrative.
In the story, Billy Crusader and Dakota Monroe are abducted by aliens and kept in an extraterrestrial zoo in a distant galaxy. The zoo director attempts to communicate with them through visions that unfold as historical events on Earth. The Arcs, who see in four dimensions, struggle to convey their complex thoughts into simple words. Despite being light-years away, Billy and Dakota contemplate humanity's crucial moments through the eyes of the Arcs.
Originally titled Suffer the Children in the now-ended Kindle Worlds program, Dark Beauty underwent revisions to remove/replace direct references to Vonnegut's work while preserving its style and tone. It was later included in the Hello World anthology as part of the 10th-anniversary edition, featuring rewrites and expansions.
FIRST CONTACT is a collection of standalone novels delving into humanity's initial encounter with extraterrestrial life. Like BLACK MIRROR or THE TWILIGHT ZONE, this series focuses on a common theme rather than recurring characters, allowing readers to enjoy them in any order. Each book explores the societal, political, religious, and scientific implications of First Contact scenarios, offering diverse perspectives on our reaction to meeting aliens for the first time.
