About the book

They refer to me as a businessman.

And I'm perfectly fine with that.

Let them believe that I established my empire through contracts and strategic planning.

Not through blood, blackmail, and the lingering bitterness from a father who believed I didn't belong in his world.

And then Wren appears.

Timid. Awkward. Unimpressive on paper.

The type of intern meant to fade into the background.

Until he puts himself in harm's way to protect me.

Now he's always by my side.

Yearning for even the slightest bit of praise like it's essential.

And I give it to him.

Not because he's earned it.

But because I enjoy the person he becomes when he's commended.

More confident, more courageous, a bit more mine each day.

I try to convince myself that I can keep him close without letting him too far in.

But someone is targeting me.

And if Wren keeps digging too deep, he won't just uncover the truth.

He'll become entangled in it.

I should distance myself from him.

Shield him from the world I was brought up in.

But I won't. I can't.

Because I've finally discovered something worth sacrificing everything for.
